O teatro naturalista em Portugal (1870-1910)
Este texto tem por objetivo recuperar
alguns momentos da história do naturalismo no
teatro português, entre 1870 e 1910, trazendo
para discussão autores, peças, críticos e
teóricos coevos. Dentre os últimos destacamos
o romancista, contista, jornalista e crítico
literário Júlio Lourenço Pinto (1842-1907) e seu
artigo “Naturalismo no teatro”, de 1884. A partir
da década de 1870, dramaturgos, atores e
empresários discutiram a viabilidade e a estética
do teatro naturalista, realçando a importância da
mise-en-scène para a sua efetiva constituição.
Data deste período histórico o surgimento e
a consolidação da figura do ensaiador e a
mudança de concepção do fazer teatral.

Abstract:
This text aims to recover some
moments of the history of naturalism in the
Portuguese theater, between 1870 and 1910,
bringing to discussion authors, plays, critics and
coeval theorists. Among the latter, we highlight
the novelist, short story writer and literary
critic Júlio Lourenço Pinto (1842-1907) and
his article “Naturalism in the theater”, written
in 1884. From the 1870s, playwrights, actors
and entrepreneurs discussed the viability and
aesthetics of the naturalist theater, emphasizing
the importance of mise-en-scène for its effective
constitution. Date of this historical period the
emergence and consolidation of the figure of
the rehearser and the change of conception of
theatrical making.
