Abstract: This study aimed to address the challenges faced by the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in the control and early diagnosis of prostate cancer. A qualitative and descriptive methodology was used, based on a literature review following the assumptions of Gil (2008). Data were collected through the analysis of scientific articles on nursing management, published between 2012 and 2022. The consulted sources were the Scielo database and the Virtual Health Library (BVS). The data were systematically read and categorized. The obtained results were presented and discussed in four categories. It was concluded that SUS faces numerous challenges related to the quality of services provided and the accessibility of users to healthcare programs. This study does not intend to exhaust the discussion but rather open avenues for further research to strengthen these institutions.
