O SISTEMA MÉTRICO DECIMAL COMO SABER ESCOLAR NO SÉCULO XIX: UMA ANÁLISE DAS ORIENTAÇÕES NA REVISTA “A ESCHOLA PUBLICA” E DA LEGISLAÇÃO ESCOLAR DE SÃO PAULO
Este artigo, com uma perspectiva histórica, tem como fontes primárias cinco artigos sobre o ensino do sistema métrico decimal, de autoria de Ramon Roca, publicados na revista “A Escola Pública”, em 1896/1897; a legislação escolar de São Paulo e a tradução do livro “Primary Object Lessons” de Norman Calkins. A questão geradora da pesquisa foi: quais seriam as aproximações entre as sugestões de Roca, a proposta de Calkins e as prescrições oficiais? A partir do estudo realizado, verificou-se que, embora Roca se paute por um viés pelo método intuitivo, suas sugestões não contemplam integralmente as determinações do livro de Calkins, que foi o mais divulgado no Brasil no final do Oitocentos, e também não estão em plena conformidade com a legislação escolar em vigor na época.

Abstract:
This paper, with a historical perspective, has as primary sources five articles by Ramon Roca, on the teaching of the decimal metric system, published in the magazine “A Escola Pública”, in 1896/1897; the school legislation of São Paulo and the book “Primary Object Lessons” by Norman Calkins. The aim was to answer the research question: what would be the approximations between Roca's suggestions, Calkins' proposal and official prescriptions? From the study carried out, we verified that, although the Roca’s proposals are based on the intuitive method, in his guidelines, the determinations found in Norman Calkins' book, which was the most publicized in Brazil in the late 1800s, are not fully verified. Roca's suggestions are also not fully in line with school legislation.
