O SALTÉRIO DE LUTTRELL (C.1345): POSSIBILIDADES DE ESTUDO
O Saltério de Luttrell é um dos mais significativos manuscritos iluminados do século XIV. Suas páginas contêm iluminuras abrangendo
diversas temáticas em margens que circundam os Salmos, o calendário e cantos litúrgicos. O manuscrito foi elaborado na Inglaterra durante o segundo quartel do século XIV, a mando de um membro da nobreza, Sir Geoffrey Luttrell III (1276-1345). Sir Geoffrey, barão e cavaleiro inglês, teve os recursos necessários para supervisionar a confecção do Saltério e, com isso, exerceu uma forte influência em sua iluminação. Neste capítulo, desejamos apresentar este manuscrito e as inúmeras possibilidades de estudo que suas imagens trazem aos historiadores. Elencamos três grandes temáticas presentes nas iluminuras que permeiam as margens do Saltério de Luttrell. Analisaremos, por meio do trabalho de autores como Michelle P. Brown (2006) e Michael Camille (1998), a forma como Sir Geoffrey Luttrell e a nobreza inglesa do século XIV se fazem presentes, tanto direta quanto indiretamente, no decorrer do manuscrito.

Abstract:
The Luttrell Psalter is one of the most relevant Illuminated Manuscripts of the 14th century. In its pages, we find images comprising a wide variety of themes, positioned in the margins around the Psalms, a calendar, and liturgical canticles. The manuscript was made in England during the second quarter of the 14th century, by order of a nobleman: Sir Geoffrey Luttrell III (1276-1345). Sir Geoffrey, as an English baron and Knight, disposed of the necessary resources to supervise the making of the Psalter. Through this, he was able to considerably influence its illumination. In this chapter, we aim to present the possibilities of research raised by the manuscript’s images. Therefore, we have chosen three great themes present in many of the psalter’s marginal images. Through the work of Michelle P. brown (2006) and Michael Camille (1998), among others, we aim to show how Sir Geoffrey Luttrell and the 14th century English nobility can be directly or indirectly perceived along the manuscript’s pages.
