O REPOSICIONAMENTO POLÍTICO DO BARÃO DE ABIAHY NOS DEBATES EDUCACIONAIS DO FIM DO IMPÉRIO
Este texto demonstra como a elite adesista na Paraíba, aqui representada na figura de Silvino Elvídio Carneiro da Cunha - barão do Abiahy, permaneceu monarquista até as vésperas da proclamação republicana e teve de aderir ao novo regime e ajustar seu discurso e suas ideias envolvendo as reformas educacionais para continuar em condições de mando e controle político. Diante do novo sistema de governo, tiveram um reposicionamento de suas ideias em torno de elementos centrais desse período e a instrução estava na pauta dessas discussões como parte das concorrências políticas, principalmente nas páginas dos periódicos, nos pronunciamentos parlamentares e relatórios de presidentes de província. Destaca-se a atuação do barão do Abiahy, pertencente ao partido Conservador e figura influente na Paraíba imperial da segunda metade do XIX e primeiros anos da república, a partir de uma concepção adesista e liberal do ponto de vista de ideias em torno da instrução pública. Destaco essa concepção em vários momentos como na defesa da propagação da instrução para o povo, instrução para os ingênuos após a Lei do Ventre Livre, instrução destinada aos libertos após o fim da escravidão, o ideário do Ensino Livre, criação de aulas noturnas para o público adulto trabalhador. Assim, constata-se o caráter adesista na atuação de Carneiro da Cunha, o barão de Abiahy, representando a redefinição e legitimação do jogo político em um período caracterizado por posicionamentos que representaram diferentes graus de ruptura e continuidade com o ordenamento até então mantido pela monarquia.

Abstract:
This article demonstrates how the adhesion elite in Paraíba, represented here in the figure of Silvino Elvídio Carneiro da Cunha - baron of Abiahy, remained monarchist until the eve of the republican proclamation and had to adhere to the new regime and adjust his speech and his ideas involving reforms educational activities to continue in conditions of command and political control. Faced with the new system of government, had a repositioning of their ideas around central elements of that period and instruction was on the agenda of these discussions as part of political competition, mainly in the pages of the journals, in the parliamentary pronouncements and reports of provincial presidents. The performance of the baron of Abiahy, belonging to the Conservative party and an influential figure in the imperial Paraíba of the second half of the 19th and early years of the republic, stands out from an adherent and liberal conception from the point of view of ideas around public education. . I highlight this conception at various times, such as defending the spread of instruction to the people, instruction to the naive after the Free Womb Law, instruction aimed at the freedmen after the end of slavery, the idea of Free Education, the creation of evening classes for the working adult audience. Thus, one can see the adherent character in the performance of Carneiro da Cunha, the baron of Abiahy, representing the redefinition and legitimization of the political game in a period characterized rupture and continuity with the educational order, economic, political, juridical and social maintained by the monarchy.
