Abstract: This study aims to demonstrate, through a possible reading of the short story “La noche boca arriba,” part of Julio Cortázar’s book El final del juego (2015), how the Argentine writer, considered one of the founders of the phenomenon known as the latin american Boom, reflects on and deconstructs the concept of traditional fantasy, whose main researcher was the critic Todorov (1992). Cortázar aligns himself with the idea of the neo-fantastic, as proposed by the critic Alazraki (1990), by reversing the planes of reality and dreams in this story, which makes our reference to reality and fantasy like two sides of the same coin.
