O PERFIL EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DE SARAMPO NAS REGIÕES DO BRASIL ENTRE OS ANOS DE 2017 E 2021

• Abstract: Objective: To analyze the incidence of measles in Brazil between the years 2017 and 2021. Method: This is an ecological study, with the population-based regions of Brazil, evaluating the temporal evolution and the epidemiological clinical profile of hospitalizations for measles from January 2017 to December 2021. For this purpose, data were extracted from the SUS Hospital Information System and the National Immunization Program, databases that are in the public domain. Results: Between 2017 and 2021, the number of measles cases varied, so that the North Region recorded a higher incidence in all years, except in 2019. Most of those infected are male (52.18 %), less than 1 year old (39.84%) and between 1 and 4 years old (25.40%), as well as mixed race individuals (49.44%). Regarding immunization with the triple viral vaccine, the North Region has the lowest vaccination coverage rate for the first dose (77.14%) and second dose (59.42%). The South region has the highest percentage, both in the first (88.08%) and second dose (80.01%). In addition, it appears that all regions showed a reduction in the application of immunizers in the year 2021, especially the second dose. Conclusion: Despite the high number of cases in 2019, the study identified a reduction in the incidence of measles in the years 2020 and 2021, except for the Midwest region, which maintained a stable number of cases. The disease mainly affected male individuals, younger than one year and between one and four years, as well as young adults aged 20 to 29 years, of the brown ethnicity/race. Vaccination coverage rates also reduced in 2020 and 2021, drawing attention to the North region.
