O PATRIMÔNIO MODERNISTA DE CATAGUASES SOB O OLHAR DOS ESTUDANTES

O presente trabalho analisa a percepção dos estudantes da Escola Estadual Manuel Inácio Peixoto, localizada em Cataguases (MG), sobre os símbolos modernistas presentes em seu espaço escolar e urbano. A cidade é reconhecida nacionalmente por sua expressiva produção modernista em arquitetura, artes plásticas, mobiliário, paisagismo e reúne obras de grandes nomes como Oscar Niemeyer, Burle Marx, Cândido Portinari, entre outros. Por meio de questionários aplicados a estudantes, identificou-se uma lacuna entre os entrevistados e os símbolos modernistas, revelando um distanciamento entre os significados da paisagem e sua apropriação pelas classes sociais. O estudo fundamenta-se no conceito de paisagem cultural, segundo Ribeiro (2007), indicando que a gestão do patrimônio cultural da cidade deva ser mais inclusiva, buscando democratizar o acesso e o reconhecimento da importância deste legado.

  • Abstract: This paper analyzes the perceptions of students at the Manuel Inácio Peixoto State School, located in Cataguases, Minas Gerais, regarding the modernist symbols present in their school and urban spaces. The city is nationally recognized for its significant modernist production in architecture, visual arts, furniture, and landscaping, and includes works by renowned figures such as Oscar Niemeyer, Burle Marx, and Cândido Portinari, among others. Through questionnaires administered to students, a gap was identified between the interviewees and the modernist symbols, revealing a disconnect between the meanings of the landscape and its appropriation by social classes. The study is based on the concept of cultural landscape, according to Ribeiro (2007), suggesting that the management of the city's cultural heritage should be more inclusive, seeking to democratize access and recognition of the importance of this legacy.
