Abstract: The term "palliative care" refers to the work of a multidisciplinary team with terminally ill patients, that is, those with incurable diseases. The aim is to help adapt to the changes imposed by illness and pain, reaffirming the importance of life by considering the process of dying as natural. This study aimed to understand the relevance of palliative care in Primary Health Care. It is bibliographical research, consulting secondary materials in the Scielo, VHL, LILACS and MEDLINE databases, encompassing publications in Portuguese from the last 20 years. Patients without the possibility of a cure demand care until the end, aiming for quality of life and dignity. The nurse's role is crucial in this process, acting as an interface between family members and the healthcare team, providing quality of life, respect for the human condition, symptom control, in addition to focusing on support, comfort, humanization, communication and care.
