Abstract: Nursing professionals play a fundamental role in emergency care, being responsible for care ranging from the initial assessment of patients to the implementation of measures necessary for their stabilization and monitoring their progress. Nurses working in this area also provide direct care, participate in risk screening, resource management and guidance for both patients and their families. However, this role faces obstacles such as the high volume of work, the scarcity of available resources, the dangers inherent to the profession and the demand to deal with emotionally complex situations. Given this reality, what are the main challenges that the nursing team faces when providing reception and risk classification in emergency services? Considering that nursing work in these environments demands not only technical skills, but also a comprehensive view of the factors that impact the health of individuals, including social and environmental determinants. For this reason, the general objective is to understand how nursing works in emergency and urgent care, identifying the obstacles and essential actions to promote collective health and improve the quality of life of the population. Since the insertion of nursing in these sectors reinforces collective health, integrating immediate care with preventive actions. The methodology adopted consisted of a bibliographic review with an explanatory approach, of a cross-sectional and correlational nature. Its planning was based on the analysis of bibliographic references with an explanatory objective, including legislation and scientific articles related to the area of nursing in emergency and urgent care published between 2002 and 2024
