Abstract: Context: Child Obesity is considered a true global epidemic, representing a worrying challenge for all health professionals. Obesity during childhood and adolescence increases the probability of obesity in adult life, being associated with the development of chronic diseases, which can compromise their quality of life, representing a priority for health systems. Treating the role of the family in the development of childhood obesity becomes essential, in order to obtain positive results regarding the prevention and treatment of this problem, as the family plays an eminent role in the lives of the children and young people. Objective: To understand the paper and influence of the family in child obesity. Methodology: An integrative literature review was carried out, with research on the EBSCOHost electronic platform and its databases. Scientific studies published between 2013 and 2018 were selected, taking into consideration previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Six articles were included that demonstrated the importance of the role played by the families together with the children, in the adoption of healthy eating habits and lifestyle. The family is responsible for the transmission and shaping of healthy behaviours, and their role in the treatment process must be recognized. Conclusion: The scientific evidence considers the family as an essential focus in the behavioural changes of their children, and health professionals should develop a care partnership in order to achieve positive results.
