Abstract: Objective: To analyze what has been described in the literature about the role of nurses in promoting postpartum self-care. Method: This is an integrative review of the literature carried out in accordance with methodological steps in evidence-based practice (PBL) proposed in the literature and recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), from the year 1991, the starting point of the Orem Model. The search took place from March to August 2023, in the databases: Public/PublishMedline (PUBMED), Nursing Database (BDENF), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), SciVerse Scopus and Web of Science, via Journal Portal CAPES through access to the Federated Academic Community (CAFe) for all researchers. Results: The final sample consisted of 11 articles. It was found that 72.7% were conducted in Brazil, 9.1% were conducted in Australia, 9.1% were conducted in Mexico, and 9.1% were conducted in Portugal. From the critical and detailed analysis of the articles, the following categories emerged: category A - (Lack)Knowledge and awareness of the nursing team regarding self-care; and category B - (In)Satisfaction of postpartum women with the nursing team's guidance on self-care. Conclusion: More evidence is needed to demonstrate to nursing professionals the importance of the applicability of the Orem Model in maternal and child care. Such studies should focus on helping methods such as: acting or doing for another person; guide and guide; provide physical and psychological support; provide and maintain an environment that supports personal development; and teach.
