Abstract: Educational policies implemented in Alagoas over the past ten years have been guided by new managerialism, with increasingly refined practices of control and accountability, through the imposition of high educational performance indicators that have been equated with quality. Accordingly, the aim of this investigation is to analyze the implementation of new managerialism in Alagoas’s education system, based on a qualitative bibliographic study. This work presents a segment of data derived from a scientific initiation research project funded by the Alagoas State Research Support Foundation (FAPEAL). The findings indicate that government education policies, particularly those established from 2018 onwards, have increasingly invested in and intensified mechanisms of control, regulation, and pressure for satisfactory performance in educational assessments. These efforts have been linked to bonuses, awards, and the allocation of financial resources, fostering competition among schools and municipalities and consolidating a managerial and meritocratic policy model.
