Abstract: Contemporary society is marked by accelerated technological transformations that directly influence ways of existing, thinking, and relating—especially among younger individuals. Social media platforms, by offering tools for constructing and promoting an idealized self-image, encourage behaviors centered on self-promotion, a constant search for external validation, and the glorification of appearance. Using a bibliographic and explanatory methodology, this study analyzes the main factors that trigger the development of narcissistic traits in childhood and adolescence, as well as the impacts on socialization, self-esteem, and mental health. It is observed that the lack of regulatory mechanisms and insufficient family or institutional supervision contribute to the internalization of distorted standards of success and recognition. The research highlights the importance of preventive interventions that strengthen a sense of authentic identity, empathy, and coping skills in young people.
