Abstract: Tobacco use, identified as a public health problem, currently causes 5 million deaths per year, according to the World Health Organization. To analyze the impact of smoking on the health of health professionals, highlighting its implications for public health. This is a descriptive literature review research, constructed from materials published between 2015 and 2024. To select the texts, a search was carried out in the Scielo, Latindex, and ROAD databases. Thirteen publications that addressed the study theme were considered. Health professionals who smoke face ethical dilemmas, when they represent role models for patients, as a model of healthy behavior; in addition, they present a decrease in their ability to provide emergency care due to their decreased respiratory capacity and physical resistance. Smoking is a public health problem that has a significant impact on both smokers and healthcare professionals who suffer from the condition. It is essential to continue educating the public about the risks of smoking and providing resources for those who want to quit. In addition, it is essential to support our healthcare professionals as they face the challenges associated with treating tobacco-related diseases, always seeking to reduce the impacts on them.
