• Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has become one of the great public health challenges of the twenty-first century, directly and/or indirectly affecting the health of the world population and the challenges of nursing in urgency and emergency to cope with it and the main care for patients. OBJECTIVE: To address the actions performed by nurses that contribute to humanized care in care units. METHODOLOGY: Integrative literature review in conjunction with the PICO strategy for the formulation of the guiding question. The search for articles was carried out in the databases: LILACS and SciELO, using the following descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS), crossed with the Boolean operators AND: Nursing in Urgency and Emergency of Covid 19, Pandemic, Risk classification, totaling 203 articles found, after the criteria, 14 articles were selected to compose this study. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS: Due to the high demand implied in the need to ration equipment and health professionals, requiring hospitals to be assiduously prepared to expand and relocate care in a planned manner, it requires nurses with great technical, professional and communication skills to better interact with patients, identifying suspected cases through quality screening. despite the day-to-day difficulties in work activities. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is hoped that the present research can serve as a subsidy to guide political and public guidelines through the functions performed by these professionals within health units, in view of the new reality in public health in the urgent and emergency sectors, aiming to achieve excellence in patient care.
