O GARI E O CATADOR COMO TRABALHADORES OUTSIDERS E A ESTIGMA SOCIAL
O presente artigo faz uma abordagem acerca do trabalho dos garis e catadores de lixo, sujeitos que exercem diariamente suas atribuições com manuseio de lixo e objetos coletados destes. As reflexões partem dos depoimentos destes trabalhadores extraídos a partir de estudos etnográficos realizados com garis da Universidade de São Paulo, da cidade de Governador Valadares-MG e os catadores de lixo reciclável da cidade de Campina Grande-PB, bem como, dos relatos contidos no documentário Lixo Extraordinário, de Vik Muniz, onde buscaremos demonstrar como atitudes corriqueiras praticadas por outros trabalhadores colocam os garis e catadores em situação de inferioridade social, preconceitos e desvalorização humana. Essa realidade será analisada e compreendida à luz das ideias de autores tais como Norberto Elias e John L. Scotson dentre outros. Assim, buscaremos demonstrar a caracterização destes trabalhadores como outsiders e a questão da estigmatização social que se encontra impregnada a estes.

Abstract:
The present article approaches the work of garbage collectors and garbage collectors, subjects who daily perform their duties with handling garbage and objects collected from them. The reflections start from the testimonies of these workers extracted from ethnographic studies carried out with street sweepers from the University of São Paulo, from the city of Governador Valadares-MG and the recyclable garbage collectors from the city of Campina Grande-PB, as well as from the reports contained in the documentary Lixo Extraordinário, by Vik Muniz, where we will try to demonstrate how common attitudes practiced by other workers put the street sweepers and waste pickers in a situation of social inferiority, prejudice and human devaluation. This reality will be analyzed and understood in the light of the ideas of authors such as Norberto Elias and John L. Scotson, among others. Thus, we will seek to demonstrate the characterization of these workers as outsiders and the issue of social stigmatization that is impregnated with them.
