Abstract: This work aims to make a parallel between the female characters (Aunt Francisca, Aunt Matilde and Lucrécia) from the novel by João Almino, Cidade livre (2010), with seven of the main goddesses (Hera, Hestia, Aphrodite, Athens, Artemis, Demeter and Persephone) from Greco-Roman mythology, identifying characteristics of the goddesses in the characters. The work takes place during the construction of Brasilia, which would become the capital of the country. The female characters present in the work have very striking characteristics, making possible the present research. For that, it was necessary before this analysis to trace the profiles of the above-mentioned goddesses and then to make a comparison between the characteristics of the goddesses and the characteristics of the characters. As a basis for this study, the works of Bolen (1990), Bosi (2015), Meneses (2000), Scholze (2012), Schwantes (2006) and Woolger and J. Woolger (1989) were used to guide and support this work. From the analysis of the characters it was possible to trace the profile of each one and thus determine the goddesses that represent each female character.
