Abstract: Introduction: Antibiotics represent a class of medications indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections, due to their bacteriostatic or even bactericidal potential. Despite this, its prolonged use can have consequences for human health, as it can generate the bacterial resistance mechanism. This study aimed to investigate the role of hospital doctors in controlling antibiotic therapy to combat bacterial resistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: This study is a literature review carried out in the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences) and MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online) databases. Results and Discussion: It should be noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the consumption of antimicrobial medications became even more exacerbated, which directly contributed to the development of bacterial resistance, which represents an important challenge to be overcome as a consequence of this period. Conclusions: Thus, it is clear that the presence of a pharmaceutical professional is necessary to combat problems and guarantee the effectiveness of future antimicrobial treatments.
