Este texto tem por objetivo fazer

uma incursão na história da matemática

escolar do Brasil, por meio de uma leitura

histórica crítica do estudo do sistema métrico

decimal (SMD), atráves do Livro Arithmética

Elementar Illustrada de autoria de Antonio

Bandeira Trajano, autor de diversos manuais

escolares desde o final do século XIX e que

circularam amplamente por diferentes partes

do país. O referencial teórico-metodológico

foi construído com base em Chervel (1990), o

qual descreve sobre a história das disciplinas

escolares; Chartier (1991) com as noções de

apropriação e representação. Como referencial

teórico-metodológico centramos em March

Bloch através do método crítico. O desenrolar

do estudo ainda contou com referência de

autores da história da educação e história da

educação matemática no Brasil. Busca-se com

este trabalho, a partir da análise histórica, que

o autor apresente em seus escritos uma forma

distinta para se constituir o ensino do SMD,

possibilitando uma reflexão através de seu

ensino uma vez que este se caracteriza pelo

método intuitivo.

Abstract:
This text aims to make an incursion

into the history of Brazilian school mathematics

by means of a critical historical reading of the

study of the metric system of decimals, through

the Illustrated Elementary Arithmetic Book

written by Antonio Bandeira Trajano, author

of several manuals since the end of the 19th

century that have circulated widely throughout

different parts of the country. The theoreticalmethodological framework was based on

Chervel (1990), which describes the history of

the school subjects; Chartier (1991) with the

notions of appropriation and representation.

As a theoretical-methodological reference we

focused on March Bloch through the critical

method. The development of the study still

counts with references of authors of the history of

education and history of mathematical education

in Brazil. With this work, based on the historical

analysis, the author presents in his writings a

distinct form to constitute the teaching of the

Decimal Metric System, allowing a reflection

through his teaching since it is characterized by

the intuitive method.
