Abstract: Introduction: Health professionals daily face unstable and unhealthy working conditions, in an environment that is marked by a lack of safety, adequate infrastructure and the risks present in it. This influences high levels of professional and mental exhaustion, physical and psychological illness, poor quality of life and health care. Objective: to identify in the literature the factors that contributed to the emergence of nurses' occupational stress in coping with COVID-19. Methodology: This is a literature review, following the guidelines recommended by the Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses (PRISMA). For the selection of articles, the author evaluated the inclusion of studies identified in the National Library Of Medicine (Pubmed), Scopus and Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) databases, using the keywords: #1 COVID-19, #2 Nurses and 3# Occupational stress. Results: 715 articles were found in all databases; 150 duplicates were removed 413 articles were excluded after reading by titles; 87 studies were excluded after reading the abstract and 54 articles were excluded after reading the work in full. Discussion: The focal risk factors that increased nurses' burnout from burnout syndrome were: low readiness of family and colleagues to deal with the COVID- 19 outbreak, younger age, decreased social support, increased threat of a unknown disease, longer working time in the quarantine area, working in a higher risk environment, working in hospitals with inadequate and insufficient materials and human resources, increased workload and lower level of training in relation to COVID-19. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic is associated with significant levels of symptoms of anxiety, depression, burnout and post- traumatic stress disorder in health professionals, especially nurses. Factors related to routine changes have a significant association with these symptoms.
