Abstract: Prostate cancer is a highly prevalent disease. It is the second most common type of cancer in men, with around 1.1 million new cases diagnosed in the last survey in 2020, in Brazil. Its diagnosis is made through a clinical examination, which is a rectal examination or digital examination of the prostate and a blood test to measure prostate-specific antigen, through a protein produced in the epithelial cells present in the prostate, recommended in men from from 50 years of age or from 45 years of age, if there are risk factors present. This article is justified by addressing and understanding the diagnostic methods of this disease, which are met with male reluctance, negatively influencing the search for care for prevention or discovery in the initial period. This diagnosis is something that is treated as a taboo, due to the shame that men have when faced with the tests used for such a diagnosis. The objective of this article in the form of an integrative literature review is to analyze and understand the methods of diagnosing this cancer, a process that is relevant, but difficult to carry out. This study uses a qualitative approach, with a search for descriptors in DeCS/MeSH and then a new search in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and LILACS databases using “neoplasms”, “prostatic”, using the Boolean operator “AND”. This review was constituted through the following steps: delimitation of the topic; definition of inclusion and exclusion criteria; removal of data from articles; studies obtained; analysis of studies as well as elaboration of results. The following criteria were used: free full text, controlled clinical trial, and articles published in the last 5 years; duplicate articles unrelated to the topic.
