Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The emergency care unit is an establishment that aims to restore the vital parameters of individuals who need quick prompt care however, this unit presents several challenges, since numerous factors contribute to the occurrence of adverse events, characterized as an incident that results in harm to the patient. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the professional perspectives from different areas about adverse events happened in an emergency care unit. METHOD: This is a descriptive transversal study with a quantitative approach, developed in an emergency care unit in the Fundão city made with 43 professionals. RESULTS: About finding, 36 people claim that adverse events aren’t reported, 34 disclaim having made an error that was caused harm by the patient, 29 disclaim having committed made an error that was perceived and represented ham to the patient, and 25 people claim to know the work of someone who has already made an error an adverse events. About the question “Do you know what is an adverse event?”, a statistically significant difference was obtained in the variable profession, 76% of the participants know what is an adverse event. However only one person from the nursing team disclaimed to know about what is adverse event, while 15 professionals from other categories don’t know about it. CONCLUSION: The study showed the importance of clarifying the function of each person in the patient safety, so everyone feels responsible for individual or collective action.
