Abstract: We present a brief contextualization of the expansion of external assessments in the global and national context and the role of the pedagogical coordinator in the coordination between central bodies and teachers within educational institutions. We aimed to analyze the Bahian Education Assessment System (SABE) and the functions assigned to pedagogical coordinators as a result of the implementation of the assessment policy. This is research guided by a critical reading of reality, which aims to highlight the correlations and interdependence between universal and particular phenomena and whole/part relationships. We carried out a bibliographical survey on external evaluation, with articles published between 1990 and 2019. We also used documentary research, with the examination of the School Regulations in force in the State of Bahia and the analysis of Notice SAEB/02/2017 of opening of applications for the filling of permanent positions of teachers and pedagogical coordinators of the State Education Network. In this context, we demonstrate the official definition of the coordinator as a mediator, inducer and enabler of the evaluation policy implemented in the State of Bahia.
