Abstract: Alcohol consumption by university students is a worrying factor and the increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the world was observed. This work was developed with the objective of verifying the prevalence of alcohol consumption in university students in the state of Bahia, Brazil, in the first moments of social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, a cross-sectional, exploratory analytical study was carried out in two public and two private universities in Bahia, totaling four institutions. The study population consisted of university students, totaling 918 individuals. Data collection took place from April to May 2020, being carried out through a closed electronic questionnaire, via the online platform Google forms. The results obtained in this study show that there were changes in the consumption of alcoholic beverages among university students. There was an increase in alcohol consumption, however the reduction in consumption was more prominent. This may be related to the decrease in restricted social contact and health concerns.
