O CARGO DE FAMILIAR DO SANTO OFÍCIO E AS HABILITAÇÕES INCOMPLETAS PARA BAHIA
O presente trabalho busca realizar um levantamento junto à documentação pertencente ao conjunto de Habilitações Incompletas do Conselho Geral do Tribunal do Santo Ofício Português de pessoas residentes na Bahia durante o século XVIII, que tentaram habilitar-se ao cargo de Familiares da Inquisição, mas tiveram seus pleitos negados devido a suspeita de serem cristãos-novos, pois segundo as regras para os pretendentes, somente cristãos-velhos poderiam atuar como agentes nessa Instituição. Foi necessário, para uma melhor realização desta pesquisa, dividi-la em duas partes: a primeira pretendeu obter uma base bibliográfica com dados importantes para uma melhor compreensão dos números históricos dos habilitandos que se submeteram a petições para aquisição das habilitações no Santo Ofício. Na segunda parte da investigação, utilizaremos fontes inquisitórias (conjuntos documentais constituídos majoritariamente por manuscritos) que se encontram digitalizadas e disponíveis no site do Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, localizado em Lisboa Portugal. Para a inquisição portuguesa há um total de 5428 Habilitações Incompletas para diferentes cargos do século XVI ao XIX e é estes documentos a fonte da pesquisa, que ora apresentaremos resultados.

Abstract:
The present work seeks to carry out a survey with the documentation belonging to the set of Incomplete Qualifications of the General Council of the Court of the Portuguese Holy Office of people residing in Bahia during the 18th century, who tried to qualify for the post of Family Members of the Inquisition, but had their claims denied due to the suspicion of being new Christians, because according to the rules for suitors, only old Christians could act as agents in this institution. It was necessary, for a better accomplishment of this research, to divide it in two parts: the first one intended to obtain a bibliographic base with important data for a better comprehension of the historical numbers of the qualified ones that had submitted to requests for acquisition of the qualifications in the Holy Office. In the second part of the investigation, we will use inquisitive sources (documentary sets consisting mostly of manuscripts) that are digitized and available on the website of the National Archives of Torre do Tombo, located in Lisbon Portugal. For the Portuguese inquisition there are a total of 5428 Incomplete Qualifications for different positions from the 16th to the 19th century and these documents are the source of the research, which we will now present results.
