O Cardeal Joseph Ratzinger e a crítica a alguns aspectos da Teologia da Libertação
Neste artigo procuraremos analisar os detalhes das críticas feitas pelo então Cardeal Joseph Ratzinger a alguns aspectos da Teologia da Libertação (TdL), especificamente quanto à utilização do marxismo. Esta reflexão é pertinente, sobretudo, por três razões: em primeiro lugar, pela reflexão do Cardeal sobre o conceito de “libertação”, compreendido na América Latina a partir desta nova teologia; em segundo lugar porque Ratzinger identifica o subcontinente como sendo o “centro de gravidade”[1] da Teologia da Libertação, embora esta não fosse um fenômeno exclusivamente latino-americano. Além disso, Ratzinger analisa a TdL como “uma forma de imperialismo cultural”, lembrando que não se trata de um produto original, mas apropriado de “intelectuais nascidos ou formados no Ocidente opulento”[2]. O objetivo é, portanto, compreender melhor a crítica da Igreja à Teologia da Libertação.

Abstract:
This article aims to analyze the details of the criticisms made by the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of some aspects of Liberation Theology (LT), specifically its usage of Marxism. This reflection is relevant specially for three reasons: firstly, the Cardinal's reflection on the concept of "liberation", which is understood in Latin America from this new theology; secondly because Ratzinger identifies the subcontinent as the "center of gravity" of liberation theology, although it was not an exclusively Latin American phenomenon. Furthermore, Ratzinger analyzes the liberation theology as "a form of cultural imperialism", bearing in mind that this is not an original product, but appropriate of "intellectuals born or formed in the affluent West." Therefore, the goal to be achieved is the better understanding of the criticism of the Church to liberation theology.
