Abstract: Children in early childhood education are constantly developing and learning, and playing is a critical tool throughout this process. This study aims to emphasize playing as a foundation for children’s development through body movements in early childhood education. In terms of methodology, it is approached from a qualitative standpoint, specifically adopting a theoretical-reflexive framework based on an experiential account within an Early Childhood Education Center situated in a municipality in the interior of the State of Amazonas. As a result, the observation underscores that playing is frequently conducted without a dedicated commitment to teaching, lacking clear adoption of pedagogical goals. It is also essential to highlight the institutional exertion of excessive control over playing and games, fostering a mindset wherein children perceive educational institutions solely as places for learning and, consequently, recreational activities are seen merely as a form of relaxation. This perspective tends to disregard the potential of such activities as a valuable tool for both teaching and development. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure that playing is directed by educational goals, requiring the active involvement of teachers, who must recognize the significance of playing and strategically analyze how to incorporate it into the curriculum in a deliberate manner. Faced with this challenge, potential strategies for advancing this discussion include a) fostering teacher training that views playing as a tool aligned with children’s physical movement and holistic development, b) creating dedicated spaces within Early Childhood Education Centers to promote strategically planned games and playing activities, and c) educating parents about the significance of playing activities in their children's formation, aiming to ensure that the children’s process of holistic development and physical movement is consistently addressed within the family unit.
