O bicentenário GEORGE GABRIEL STOKES (1819 – 1903)
Em comemoração ao bicentenário George Gabriel Stokes decidiu-se apresentar traços biográficos deste matemático e físico, com ênfase as pesquisas desenvolvidas por ele, em particular, para uma de seus principais resultados na área da Matemática, o Teorema de Stokes. Destaca-se inicialmente a importância das biografias para o processo de ensino da matemática. Tendo em vista o bicentenário do nascimento de George Stokes, aportados numa revisão bibliográfica, buscou-se elementos para mostrar a importância que a Matemática teve para Stokes, destacar quais foram as teorias que ele abordou e quais resultados o elevam a categoria de matemáticos que produziram conteúdos significativos para as ciências, em particular, os campos de pesquisa modernos que surgiram de seu trabalho em física e matemática. Nessa revisão bibliográfica constatou-se também que a Matemática foi de fundamental importância para as demonstrações de suas teorias

Abstract:
In celebration of the bicentenary George Gabriel Stokes it was decided to present biographical traces of this mathematician and physicist, with an emphasis on the research he developed, in particular, for one of his main results in the area of Mathematics, Stokes' Theorem. Initially, the importance of biographies for the mathematics teaching process is highlighted. In view of the bicentenary of the birth of George Stokes, based on a bibliographic review, elements were sought to show the importance that Mathematics had to Stokes, to highlight which were the theories that he addressed and which results elevated him to the category of mathematicians who produced significant content for the sciences, in particular, the modern research fields that emerged from his work in physics and mathematics. In this bibliographic review it was also found that Mathematics was of fundamental importance for the demonstrations of its theories.
