Abstract: This article aims to discuss the contributions of “bailão”, as a typical musical style of Rio Grande do Sul, in the socio-cultural development of the State, as well as in the consummation of cultural rights, enshrined in the Federal Constitution. It was observed that the concept of “bailão” refers not only to the party or gathering of people to dance, but also to the dancing musical genre, typical of the South of Brazil, whose origin dates back to the beginning of the 19th century with the arrival of immigrants Germans to the Region. In the past, the musical style was limited to preserving ethnic identity and German culture. Currently, the transformations resulting from advances in the area of communication end up dictating the trends in the music scene. It was no different in relation to “bailão”, which brings with it the influence of other musical styles, dealing with themes such as infidelity and heartbreak, being the most performed musical style today on radio stations in the South of Brazil. The “bailão” brings together different audiences, ranging from teenagers to the “third age”, who contemplate in the dance the possibility of developing a more participatory identity with their social surroundings. The relationship between the “bailão” and the rights to culture and leisure can be seen, which is related to a state of freedom and pleasures, as people contemplate in the “bailão” the possibility of avoiding their responsibilities work and develop (personally and interpersonally). In this way, the preservation of the musical style will depend on the possibility of reinventing itself and adapting to the context and the new characters that are inserted into it, given the need to reach new audiences.
