• Abstract:

  Much has been said and

  researched about the importance of memory for

  the critical study of Literature. From the individual

  memory, autobiographical, to the consolidations

  of phenomena proposed by collective memory.

  This work seeks to make a study of the ABC

  poem of the Flagellated Northeast of Patativa

  do Assaré, with the following objectives: to

  analyze how the eu-lyrical constructs the image

  of the dry space in the northeast; to study the

  movements coming from an entire historical

  context resulting from this climatic phenomenon;

  to focus on maintaining the cultural tradition that

  occurs with the dissemination of these studies

  to an entire local / regional student community.

  Since one of the main aspects studied comes

  from the popular movement. Starting from the

  premise of the individual memory traced by the

  profile of the author of the poem itself and arriving

  at the collective considerations transmitted and

  perpetuated by the cordelistas. From the point

  of view of theorists such as Maurice Halbwachs, 

  who contributes in an elucidating way to the advent of collective memory; Luis Alberto

  Brandão, who focuses on the expansion of literary space. It is important to emphasize

  that we still intend to understand that memory is constructed, propagated and re

  (invented) taking into account the cultural aspects of a certain social group. For that,

  we still have Antonio Candido’s theory on Literature and society.
