Abstract: Considering the increase in cases of infertility related to lifestyle factors, this study aims to analyze the influence of nutrition on reproductive health, investigating how dietary habits, specific nutrients, nutritional status, and associated factors can impact female and male fertility. This is a narrative review including scientific articles published in the PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases between 1990 and 2025, conducted with humans. The results ensured that balanced dietary patterns have a greater impact on fertility than isolated nutrients: the Western pattern, rich in trans fats and high glycemic index carbohydrates, is associated with ovulatory infertility and reduced sperm quality, while the Mediterranean pattern presents positive effects due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Furthermore, nutrients such as omega-3, resveratrol, zinc, selenium, and coenzyme Q10 have the potential to contribute to improved gametic quality and conception due to their antioxidant effect, while factors such as insulin resistance, oxidative stress, intestinal dysbiosis, and obesity exacerbate reproductive dysfunction. It is concluded that adherence to diets considered healthy, rich in antioxidants and unsaturated fats, combined with the control of metabolic disorders, represents an effective and modifiable strategy to improve reproductive health and fertility in both sexes.
