• Abstract: According to recent research on the total number of the population and the total number of elderly people, an accelerated process of population aging can be seen, caused by an increase in life expectancy and a decrease in fertility levels. Due to this change, it becomes interesting to ensure not only longevity, but a better quality of life, in order to meet and satisfy all the personal needs of this population and among the resources used for this purpose, we can mention the advancement of research and studies on the aging process. The present study aims to report the experience acquired through the “NAGG” research project, at the UNIFIP University Center, located in the city of Patos-PB. This is an experience report lived by the responsible professor and academics who are part of the Research Project, which lasted 8 months (between the years 2022 and 2023), with weekly meetings lasting 1 hour. Activities were developed such as: discussions on forms and types of research and thematic approach to the area of ​​geriatrics and gerontology; creation of a bank of research topics prepared by students and preparation of scientific works for events and scientific magazines. In view of this, it is believed that the project had a positive impact on the project's academics due to the role of scientific initiation, management in carrying out studies and gaining knowledge on the subject of geriatrics and gerontology, in addition to benefits for the scientific academy and community in general, regarding the training of new researchers in the area covered, generating new knowledge and scientific evidence to improve the quality and assistance provided to the elderly population.
