Abstract: Due to their unique electronic and geometric properties, single-atom catalysts demonstrate significantly superior catalytic activities and selectivities compared to traditional nanometric systems. The maximized atomic efficiency inherent in these materials promotes sustainability in various processes and enables cost reduction. Potential combinations between isolated atoms and supports are essential in constructing efficient catalysts for a wide range of reactions, from traditional conversions of petroleum-derived molecules to contemporary reactions of great interest, such as hydrogen production via electrocatalysis and the conversion of organic molecules from renewable sources. Thus, this chapter presents the main definitions of atomic catalysts and the use of graphitic carbon nitride-based supports for obtaining these materials.
