Abstract: Capitalism is a mode of production that survives from crises, which indicate the need for changes, with a view to maintaining the cycle of accumulation and domination of capital, which occurs through the exploitation of the worker. To this end, it uses conservative thinking to, in a strategic and ideological way, justify its expansion needs. In Brazil, conservatism is a striking trait in the socio-historical formation process, related to the establishment of inequalities and, consequently, to the expansion of expressions of the social question. From this perspective, this article aims to reflect on the structural crisis of capital, which began in the 1970s, emphasizing the adoption of neoliberalism, as well as the expansion of conservative thinking today. It concludes that overcoming capitalism, as a hegemonic mode of production, requires the organization of the working class and its recognition as a privileged subject of social transformation. This is a bibliographical study, guided by the critical-dialectical method, since there is a concern to analyze the current reality, without losing sight of the historical context and the totality that involves the expansion of conservatism today.
