Abstract: Fish farming as a main or complementary activity is characterized by the low cost of entry and maintenance, adaptable to small areas and can be developed together with other activities. In theoretical terms, the study applied the Theory of Restrictions to ascertain the bottlenecks of fish farming in rural properties considered to be small, in order to identify weaknesses that can be improved in order to maximize the operating income of the property. Regarding the methodology, the case study was used to apply the absorption and variable costing methods and the data were collected through interviews and non-participant observation on the farm. Among the research findings, the identified bottlenecks were idle area, demand higher than production, purchase from third parties at a higher cost than produced. As an alternative to overcome these bottlenecks, we have to build of new tanks.
