Abstract: The objective of this study was to understand the perceptions of workers at a long-term care facility for the elderly (LTCF) regarding the psychosocial needs of institutionalized older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study was conducted at a mixed-sex LTCF located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data collection took place from October 2021 to January 2022 through semi-structured interviews with 10 workers from different departments within the facility. The LTCF workers reported that distancing from family members and the lack of pre-pandemic activities impacted the psychosocial needs of older adults. It was clear that the management team and other workers were committed to meeting these needs, demonstrating a sensitive and welcoming approach on the part of the institution as a whole. The activities carried out by the workers demonstrated that, despite the difficult times faced by older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic, they were always cared for emotionally and emotionally. The role played by workers proved to be essential in reducing the impacts resulting from isolation.
