Abstract: In the present work, the synthesis and characterization of silica nanoparticles doped with a luminescent europium (Eu3+) complex were carried out, aiming to serve as a preliminary study for future applications in cellular imaging. The focus was on developing a core/shell system, where the complex [Eu(tta)3.(H2O)2] was incorporated into the "core." In recent years, silica nanoparticles have gained attention in this field due to characteristics such as controllable size and ease of surface modification. In this context, europium acts as the metal center of an attractive luminescent marker due to its optical properties, such as high Stokes shift and photostability, making it ideal for bioimaging in combination with silica nanoparticles. The synthesis of the luminescent complex was the first step, followed by the incorporation of the dopant into the silica nanoparticle matrix using the W/O (Water in Oil) microemulsion method, which allows for the formation of reverse micelles that act as nano- reactors. The nanoparticles (NPSi@Eutta) were characterized using techniques such as SEM, EDS, TEM, and confocal fluorescence, revealing a spherical morphology with sizes of up to 19 nm. The EDS analysis confirmed the presence of europium, while TEM validated the morphology and core/shell structure. The confocal fluorescence showed red emission, confirming the luminescent properties of the complex. The results indicate that the system is promising for future applications in bioassays.
