Abstract: The article aims to identify, based on the concept of intersectionality, the social markers present in the daily lives of elderly women in rural contexts and their connections with care, seeking to understand the relationship with the psychological distress experienced by them. This is a field research, descriptive in nature, with a qualitative approach, in which data collection was carried out through a focus group conducted in a rural community of a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with nine elderly women residing in that locality who had been diagnosed with some form of psychological distress in the last five years. Intersectionality was used as the analytical concept, which allowed for the exploration of social markers such as age, gender, and territory/work and how they are interconnected and overlapped in the production of inequality and illness associated with care. It is concluded that care is a central and organizing element of the other roles performed by women in rural areas. By intersecting the different markers found, demands resulting from historical, social, and cultural processes are identified.
