• Abstract: This study analyzes land use and occupation changes in the municipality of Castanhal, Pará, from 2013 to 2023, with a focus on deforestation and its environmental impacts. Using geospatial data and satellite imagery, the research identifies and maps the main transformations in urban, rural, and forested areas over the period. Geographic Information System (GIS) tools were employed to create thematic maps and a comparative graph, highlighting trends such as urban and agricultural expansion at the expense of native vegetation areas. The study also presents a flowchart that outlines the key stages of land occupation and its environmental consequences, including biodiversity loss and alterations to the hydrological cycle. The data analysis shows that urban and agricultural expansion was the primary driver of deforestation in the region, resulting in significant environmental and social impacts. Finally, the research discusses the implications of these changes for local sustainable development and proposes public policy recommendations to mitigate the negative effects of deforestation, promoting a more balanced approach to land use.
