Abstract: The Order of Cister was a pioneer in the creation of religious houses in the national territory with the approval of D. Afonso Henriques. Its first monks settled on vast land donated by this monarch in the region of Beiras, a newly conquered place that needed to be developed and populated. The Order's contribution proved to be relevant, not only through the buildings they bequeathed us but also through the innovative knowledge, namely of an agricultural nature, that they locally transmitted. The female branch of the Order had as its first religious house, in Portuguese territory, the Monastery of S. Bento de Cástris located in the region of Évora. The aim of this work is to study three female monasteries, founded in cities with very different characteristics and at different times: the monasteries of S. Bento de Cástris in Évora (1274), that of S. Bernardo in Portalegre (1518) and that of Nossa Senhora da Nazareth do Mocambo in Lisbon (1653), one located in the capital of the kingdom and the rest in two distinctly hierarchical cities in the Alentejo region. The specificities of these monasteries will make it possible to carry out analyses in the geomorphological development, through ícono-cartographic documentation, of the implantation zones, as well as to understand, through a temporal thread, their influences in the adjacent zones as well as heritage legacies.
