Abstract: Aquatic ecosystems, fundamental for the maintenance and survival of life on the planet, are heavily impacted due to different sources of anthropogenic degradation. Therefore, monitoring the quality of water bodies is essential for understanding the environmental health of an ecosystem. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to carry out a Rapid Ecological Assessment of the landscape and monitor, using benthic macroinvertebrates, the water quality of the Rio Alegria, located in the municipality of Medianeira, in the state of Paraná. Five points were selected, where the Rapid Assessment Protocol (RAP) was applied, with the intention of classifying the landscape situation as: natural, altered or impacted environment. In relation to biomonitoring, four collections were carried out (between the period from July 2019 to February 2020) at the five points of the selected route. The macroinvertebrates were collected with a Surber-type collection net and placed in bottles containing 70% alcohol. After identification down to the family level, the Shannon and BMWP Indices were calculated. According to the landscape analysis, points 1, 3 and 4 were classified as Altered Environment, point 2 as Impacted Environment and point 5 as Natural Environment. Regarding biomonitoring, all points showed low taxon richness and diversity (Shannon) below 0.5. Tolerant or resistant organisms were predominant and according to the BMWP Index, all points were classified as critical or very critical. The results of this work indicate that the studied stretch of the Rio Alegria is altered, compromising water quality and the health of the aquatic ecosystem as a whole.
