Abstract: Skin cancer is a growing challenge for public health, requiring the use of experimental models that allow for a better understanding of the disease, as well as the evaluation of new products for its prevention and treatment. Among the most commonly used preclinical models are in vitro models, such as cell cultures, which enable a variety of studies, and organoids, which emerge to increase the complexity of the in vitro model. In vivo models encompass a variety of organisms, including the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster), zebrafish (Danio rerio), and mice (Mus musculus). These models provide a broader view of tumor progression and therapeutic responses. Each model has specific characteristics, offering advantages and limitations that range from the simplicity of in vitro models to the complexity of animals, which more accurately simulates the tumor environment. In this context, the selection of models in a study is essential for advancing specific knowledge in the area of skin cancer and developing effective strategies against this disease.
