Abstract: This chapter presents the detailed development of the mathematical model for a grid-connected inverter equipped with an LCL filter, focusing on the structure of its current control loop. The analysis begins by formulating the equations for the physical circuit in the stationary abc reference frame, subsequently transitioning to the synchronous dq reference frame via the Clarke and Park transformations. Due to the natural coupling introduced by this geometric transformation, the study details the implementation of a feedback loop incorporating a decoupling gain, thereby allowing the plant to behave analytically as two independent systems. Furthermore, the modeling accounts for the impact of computational delays inherent to digital microcontrollers, incorporating both sampling delay and the zero-order hold (ZOH) effect within the frequency domain. The chapter concludes by formulating the complete open-loop transfer function—integrating the simplified filter dynamics and processing delays—thereby establishing a rigorous and essential foundation for the precise tuning of the current compensator.
