Abstract: A spouted bed is widely used in various industrial sectors due to its broad applicability. This equipment presents some limitations, especially when a scale-up is needed, which depends on geometric and operational conditions. In this context, a precise mathematical model that accurately represents the involved phenomena can assist in the development of more efficient spouted beds. In this regard, the objective of this study was to simulate, using the DPM model, the characteristic behavior of a rectangular spout bed. For this purpose, the OpenFOAM software was employed to solve the mass conservation, momentum, and turbulence equations, incorporating the discrete particle equations. The behavior of the spout bed particles was compared with experimental data obtained from the literature, which indicated that the models used by this study were able to represent the phenomena involved in the fluid dynamics of the equipment particles. Therefore, we can conclude that the DPM model adequately represented the behavior of the particles during the operation of a spout bed, making it a viable option for studies involving the scaling up and optimization of this equipment.
