Abstract: This text is part of the doctoral dissertation entitled “Migration of Brazilians in Portugal: social dynamics and relationships with/in the public school,” which aims to broaden the understanding of the migratory phenomenon through an analytical-reflective, critical, and interdisciplinary approach. The study proposes a theoretical shift away from traditional economicist and legal-statist readings, conceiving migration as a multifaceted phenomenon, shaped not only by macroeconomic, political, and cultural structures but also by subjective and affective dimensions. Epistemologically, the research contributes by challenging the limits of neoclassical and historical-structuralist theories, highlighting the inadequacy of unilateral explanations and rigid classifications. By adopting the concepts of migratory modalities, migratory fields and spaces, as well as social networks as analytical categories, the study offers tools better suited to the complexity of contemporary human mobility. The critique of the judicialization of migration and the production of fixed legal categories enables an analysis that is more attentive to the lived experiences of migrating subjects. Ultimately, the research reinforces the need for fairer and more flexible public policies that recognize the diversity of migratory trajectories. In doing so, it advocates for an intersubjective and intersectional reading of migration, committed to human dignity, belonging, and the right to mobility.
