Abstract: The inclusion of hands-on activities in early science education helps make the learning process more meaningful, sparking students’ interest and fostering scientific thinking. This work aims to report the implementation of five lesson plans focused on teaching botany, developed for 1st- to 5th-grade classes within the Integrated Program for Teaching, Research and Extension (PIPEx). The activities were carried out in a municipal school in the interior of Pernambuco, based on the skills outlined in the Official Curriculum of the State of Pernambuco, addressing topics such as the classification of living organisms, food chains, and plant structure. Various strategies were employed, including comparing the decomposition of plant and non-plant materials, examining the influence of light on bean growth, demonstrating water transport in plants using celery in colored water, studying photosynthesis and the presence of chlorophyll, and observing plant cells and chloroplast movement under the microscope. The adoption of active and experimental methodologies stimulated curiosity, critical thinking, and the retention of content in a concrete and contextualized way
