Abstract: This article analyzes the integration between active methodologies and formative assessment as essential pedagogical tools for promoting meaningful learning in higher education. The qualitative, bibliographic research aimed to understand how these innovative approaches contribute to autonomy, critical reflection, and self-regulated learning. Active methodologies prioritize participation, experimentation, and problem-solving, shifting the focus from teacher-centered instruction to student-centered learning. Formative assessment, in turn, serves as a continuous mediating process that provides constructive feedback to guide ongoing improvement. The analysis of recent studies reveals that combining these pedagogical dimensions is vital to fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in higher education. Furthermore, teacher training and the critical use of digital technologies are key factors in the effectiveness of these practices. It concludes that active methodologies and formative assessment, when coherently and critically implemented, strengthen the ethical and democratic commitment of higher education, making it more inclusive, dynamic, and transformative.
