Abstract: This study presents a simplified methodology for developing a geotechnical study and assessing the stability of a Controlled Waste Disposal (CSD) at a limestone mine in the city of Dom Feliciano/RS. Based on a literature review, considerations are made regarding the geotechnical properties of the materials and the geometries adopted. These parameters were the basis for the stability assessment carried out on realistic profiles of the DCE and on a proposed extension. The conclusions regarding stability are confronted and corroborated by a quantitative DCE classification methodology. The results obtained corroborate the feasibility of adopting an optimized geometry, with a height of 25 meters for the first landing and 15 meters for the second. It is concluded that the methodology and sequence of steps adopted in the evaluation can be replicated for other LECs and even serve as a guide for similar structures.
