Abstract: This article aims to describe how metaphors are organized within the terminology used in the discourse of business leadership, using James Hunter’s work “The monk and the executive: a story about the essence of leadership” as the main object of analysis. Grounded in the framework of conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 2002) and terminological studies (Gaudin, 2003; Faulstich, 2006), this research—documentary and bibliographic in nature—investigates the metaphorical expressions that shape leadership discourse. The analysis concludes that the most prominent metaphors are structured around the conceptualization of the company as a living organism, reflecting the demands of a contemporary world marked by increasingly competitive corporate environments.
